The Lone Star Pony Express Riders for Autism have been riding proudly and hosting a variety of Fund Raising events for the cause of Autism since 1995.. So far our yearly fundraisers consist of events such as:

The Space City Law Enforcement Motorcycle Challenge started our esteemed members from the Harris County Sheriff’s department who keeps the riders safe by escorting us along the highways and roads on our journey to Fort Worth with our saddle bags filled with the money raised throughout the years fund raising events.
The LSPE works hand in hand with the founding organization “The Roundup For Autism” (founded by Bobby Norris, the Original Marlboro Mans Son). We support each others
events and participate in a “Play Day” at Bobby’s Ranch. This is a day of fun with Horse Back Riding Games, food and a Fishing Competition.
Next is our Annual Midge and Vern Thrower BBQ Cook Off and Auction, founded by Lynn Thrower. Teams pay to compete for the award of The King of The Grill by cooking their briskets on a regular “Wal-Mart” special grill. At this event we also have a Silent Auction and a Live Auction with music, food and fun.
The year end event is our Brisket Sale where we spend 2 long days cooking over 200 briskets.
The coute de gra is our Pony Express ride on horseback from Houston to Fort Worth to deliver our saddle bags containing the funds raised. Each rider (escorted by Harris County Squad Cars) rides a ½ mile length and hand off the saddle bags to the next rider. When we arrive in Fort Worth, (Cow Town) there is a parade through town and an evening of music, food, and comradery with the members of The Roundup for Autism and the awesome people who work for the Autistic Treatment Centers of Texas. The next day we have our Rodeo with Celebrities such as Annie Lockhart, Larry Mayhem, Lynn Anderson, Dean Smith and many others. The Pony Express Riders along with our Celebrities compete in Team Penning. This is open to the public and is our favorite day because many autistic children from the treatment centers attend. The Final day is held in Dallas for The Pegasus Ball. There is a Horse Auction with horses from the Famous Norris Ranch and a stunning Silent Auction. We have performances from National recording artists, special Celebrity guests, a first class dinner and dancing all night.
There are two Treatment Centers in Texas, one in San Antonio and the other in Dallas. The ATC center began as a small non-profit organization in 1976 with the establishment in Dallas and 2 years later due to great need and demand the second center was opened n San Antonio. Twenty years ago, autism was a relatively obscure disorder with few diagnostic and therapeutic tools. Unfortunately the need for services has exponentially increased. The centers consist of seven major components: Community Based Group Homes, Educational Services, Vocational Services, Diagnostics, Research, Therapy and Information Dissemination.
The Lone Star Pony Express is proud to support the cause for Autism. 1 in every 150 children born today are Autistic. This is the fastest-growing developmental disability
today. There has been a 617% increase in the incidence of Autism in Texas alone. Autism is more common than the sum of all childhood cancers, muscular dystrophy, juvenile diabetes and cystic fibrosis combined. The Lone Star Pony Express raises an average of $30,000.00 per year and we hope to keep that growing.
